RUDIS SYLVA

The Rudis Sylva brand has a long and rich history dating back to 1384, spanning over six centuries. The brand has a complicated watchmaking history, but it continues to evolve and inspire today. The true architects of the Rudis Sylva concept are the artisans of our region. Their unwavering dedication to their craft is what breathes life into our brand. Our sole mission as brand managers is to honor their legacy by fusing history and technology to create a product that truly embodies the region's unparalleled expertise.

The first watch was born out of mathematical formulae, portrayed through the imagination of designers, sculpted in the workshops of watch case makers, and decorated by highly dextrous engravers, magnified by the delicate touch of dial face workers. The excellence of these artisans is witnessed in the complex machine processes applied to specific moving components such as bearings, pivots, or plates.

As the watchmaker delicately assembles the components, a beating heart is formed, a heart that one instantly forms an attachment to, fearing it might stop. The rhythmic tick-tock, the mesmerizing oscillation of the regulators, and the tactile experience of holding this jewel of technology in one's hand evoke a profound sense of admiration and attachment for the purist.

The Franches-Montagnes region, La Chaux-de-Fonds, and Le Locle are home to many companies in the watchmaking industry. Watchmaking-related businesses are present, such as those involved in bonding glass, honing, and fritting – all of which positively impact the regional economy. All these subcontractors have acquired specific expertise which would effectively dash the hopes of anyone thinking about producing a watch alone.

Today, we celebrate the reputation the local population has established regarding the global exclusivity of its expertise, despite the trauma of the job losses in the 1970s.

A Watchmaking Revolution
Revealed at Baselworld 2009, the Harmonious Oscillator is a technology acclaimed by Master Watchmakers as the most significant invention since Breguet's Tourbillon in 1801. In a vertical position, the Tourbillon generally needs a minute to compensate for the effects of gravity, while the Harmonious Oscillator counters it at each oscillation. This creation from Rudis Sylva, features a system with two mechanically interlinked balances driven by a single escapement. This technical innovation goes against watchmaking theories, which have always ruled out stress on the balances.
